Describe the issue
The instructions say:

"In the account menu, choose Advanced options. Under "Sync Server", select Custom, then enter the address of your new server."

But I don't see an Advanced Options section in the Linux, Android or Web App (which I am also self-hosting). Or at least not an place to select the server.

Does this require a subscription? Is the web app supposed to have this option to point it to the self-hosted server? I would have expected this to work automatically when running on the same server.

You don't need a subscription. You should find the option here:

Account menu collapsed

Account menu expanded

These screenshots are from a fresh install I just deployed on my server. You might want to refer to this issue as well to avoid problems with cookies: standardnotes/server#1068
