If I want to add global classes or style the <body> tag, they need to be defined in index.html. It would be ideal if this worked within the bootstrap component.

I think the solution may be to use None for encapsulation
https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/guide/component-styles.html#!#view-encapsulation
