Scripting in Furnace

I noticed, in a scripting branch there is some work on Lua script API - what will be they used for? To extends Furnace functionality... but realistically speaking, with what kind of features?

Scripting in Furnace will allow you to do:

• Song editing (instruments, wavetables, samples, song information, pattern data and more)
• Playback control
• Custom menus in the top bar
• Displaying dialogs (to some degree)
• Visual overlays
• Events (call functions when things happen, which can be used to extend a MIDI controller's functionality for example)
• Binding script functions to keys or MIDI events

I see (although the first two not fully understand, scripting will allow for more than what is already available via built-in editors? or that any changes will be automatized? like automatic instrument type change after chip change)

I can see potential, for example making a fantasy chips from portions of pre-existing ones, maybe even automatic video file output of pattern/oscilloscope if Lua allows that

Sadly, custom chips will not be covered by the scripting API.

Regarding the first point: yes. The scripting API will allow you to do things.
