Trigger the combobox by clicking a button

Hi everyone!
I would like to trigger the combobox (or open the mention dropdown options) on cursor position by clicking on a toolbar button intead of typing a character (@).
I would appreciate it if someone could give me a hint.

@zbeyens I've tried this, but all .set.open does is show the combobox, but never takes any text input, it stays on the initial state, and is not responding to any text input. I can still select the currently shown options with arrow keys, or by clicking one.
But when I try to onfocus and close the combobox, then the box keeps showing up every time I focus inside the editor. It will only disappear by pressing enter (even while focused in another paragraph entirely) or escape, basically the normal ways, so the combobox thinks you're still inside it, yet the text input is unresponsive.

In short the mention/combobox functionality is lost when you only set .open ..
