  • UTM from the Mac App Store
  • macOS Sequoia
  • VM is Ubuntu Server 24.10.

A freshly installed UTM on Sequoia running a Ubuntu Server 24.10 and I can not paste in anything into the Ubuntu console. No, I'm of course not running Gnome on a small server thing. Installed spice-vdagent as per the instructions and started it. No effect. There does not seem to be any way to get stuff pasted into the VM. Clipboard sharing is enabled for the VM and everything mentioned by the UTM docs has been done.

Not being able to copy and paste stuff makes UTM more or less useless for me as a development tool.

Yup, not sure that spice-vdagent is meant for serial consoles.

Wouldn't ssh in to the VM be a better non-GUI alternative?

I'm pretty sure spice-vdagent requires a display server clipboard (either X11 or Wayland) running. Is it possible for you to run an headless X11 server --- I think that that would be good enough.
