Public directory is accessible via root and public directory under pathes "/" and "/public"

In the following stackblitz example. You can see an image accessed via both pathes:

Is this intended behavior? It can lead to surprises after build because then the access via "root" to "/public" is gone.

I would like to thank you for vite. I really enjoy using it and stumbled over this.
