If you have time and interest, would you kindly consider an alternative approach to this project's implementation:
Use OpenStreetMap as the base layer for the map
Add coffee places to OpenStreetMap for them to appear on the map
This approach might be a bit more complex than the current one. However, it is clearly aimed at geeks, and geeks are not easily scared of complexity :)

I do agree that OpenStreetMap street maps is more geeky approach, and could easily fit to this page.
My view:
using google maps has one power feature that is really hard to fined elsewhere , namely StreetView.
following current approach is a bit time consuming already, and since this project is is my free time only, I'm trying to reduce amount of work that 'adding places' related.
