Steps to Get the Auth Key for highres_lossless - Command Line Version Windows and Android

• you need to get a pc and install fiddler classic https://www.telerik.com/fiddler/fiddler-classic
• and install tidal desktop version (find that yourself)
• you then need to open fiddler after you open tidal desktop
• with fiddler hit ctrl+f and type tidal
• on the left side will be highlighted in yellow all the processes of tidal
• find one that says something about tidal like this

Next you will need to get the Auth Bearer key as pictured above. You will probably need to let fiddler decrypt https (at your own risk ofc) See below the steps illustrated:

After that you should be able to return back here under the headers tab and see the auth bearer key if you didn't before

Finally go to tidal-dl in windows or android and press 3 to update auth key. Copy and paste just the key string from above, not the words auth bearer. Then hit enter. Then hit 0 and enter when it asks you if you want to refresh key, you don't need to do that.

Then find some tracks marked max on tidal and flac when you play the song in the new tidal update that shows you whether it's mqa or flac. Flac tracks will download as hires_lossless now and the files are big.

Do you know if there is way to perform "update auth key" step you described in Terminal on Mac?

Tidal-g on Mac only has "Enter 3: Set AccessToken" and "Enter 7: Select APIKey", so I don't know how to perform "update auth key" using Mac. Feedback appreciated.

Yes. It's in my steps. It is 3 (Auth key and access token are synonymous in this case) What you need to do is set api key (7) to 4 for master. The press 3 and paste the Auth key. Read the steps above. Where you may have a problem is if you don't have hifi plus. I couldn't test that.

Hi,
I am having problem updating the AccessToken. I am using Mac, used Fiddler to find the bearer, but I get this error message when I paste the code in Terminal:

[ERR] HTTPSConnectionPool(host='api.tidal.com', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /v1/sessions (Caused by SSLError(SSLCertVerificationError(1, '[SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: unable to get local issuer certificate (_ssl.c:1129)')))

Unfortunately these steps have only been confirmed with the windows app. FYI, personally I would recommend updating your screenshots to not have your user profile number anywhere (or any other identifiable information, remember they can match logs) in case big T comes through here.

I have tried with Auth bearer from android and it doesn't work either. For some reason only working version is the windows Auth bearer

Also in your case it seems like it's trying to match the associated ssl cert with the bearer.

To avoid the ERR (macOS):

Copy the auth key, then quit fiddler BEFORE updating the key within tidal-dl, fixed error for me.

That's right. Max is up to 192. But at minimum they are 24 bit and 44.1khz which is a step up from 44.1/16 on the regular hifi plan. As far as the wait goes, maybe your network cache or something?

I have completely no idea what caused that, but it works now. Idk if it was caching but it's just too similar to caching for it not to be it. Either way a restart or clearing temp folder on windows should solve any issue

I am finding the minimum is in fact 24/44.1 (not 24/48), contrary to the tidal website screenshot stating otherwise that was posted on another thread (at this time I can't find the 24/48 minimum statement anywhere on the tidal website).

On a related note it seems like the Android cache files in Android/data folder for tidal are back to containing Auth bearer. However I can download any tracks when I set that as my access key. It accepts the key, but then says xml stream url error. Was excited for a minute to be able to do all steps from my phone, but just couldn't download anything. If anyone has any ideas, would be interesting to know why a key from windows desktop works but from android doesn't.

The android app is way more proprietary, same as the IOS app and I think like that, because on IOS/Android you can download tracks from the app itself without using tidal-dl (remember that without the subscription you won't be able to access them). In the end on the mobile app they probably have a way more advanced verification process

hi, thanks for all the help , it took long before i got hi-res, but at last it worked out fine. With fiddler i lost connection all the time, i got angry removed and reinstalled Fiddler Classic , works fine . i added the token and Yes , hi-res came up

I understand that you open the TIDAL-App under Windows and then Fiddler Classic. I found tidal using STRG+F and searching for tidal.
Which Options exactly do I have to select on the right?
Unfortunatley ladle3000's screenshots are blurred and I can't see which options are selected.
I dont see any Bearer on the right.

Try another tidal entry on the left. Usually the second of the two api.tidal.com on the left has a bearer. You need to be under headers on the right. Also make sure you've done ALL the steps in my post, specifically adding the certificate to windows or it can't read the bearer.

You need to select yes, and I don’t want to be that guy or toxic but mate, you don’t know how https works if you don’t know what certificates are. Try to be honest it’s like going to a doctor if you lie to him he won’t help you. I do appreciate your help very much. Unfortunately I'm no coding-Pro but finally you all enabled me to use Yaronzz's tidal-dl to download Lossless HighRes now.

Glad to hear it 👍🏼 - just giving you a hard time. As an FYI the highres lossless keys generally seem to last about 12 hours. I find if you can remember every couple hours to hit play on the tidal desktop app and then pause immediately this seems to keep the same Auth bearer key alive for longer.

And if you ever get to the point where it seems like nothing is working anymore no matter what you do, navigate to your C drive and your user directory, most likely c:\Users\yourusername\.tidal-dl.json and delete or rename that json file like .tidal-dl-old.json and then reopen the tidal downloader program it should work again.

This is because the album is provided in MQA file type (as opposed to Tidal's new plain Hi-Res FLAC offering), I think I've always found that MQA will be downloaded like that, as 16/44.1 FLAC.

Personally I just avoid anything MQA anyway, luckily very very little of what I'm after is provided in MQA, but there may be a thread elsewhere that discusses why this happens.

The MQA-Downloads are in 24Bit too, so this is no difference to real LossLess.

I did some further research. The live albums "Live in Tokyo 2012" and "The Sole Inhabitant" from artist "Thomas Dolby" are downloaded in MP4 and not FLAC using the key generated by tidal-dl.

Bottom line: With the key from Fiddler tidal-dl avoids downloading MP4 which is exactly what I want.

To answer your question, yes it seems to last about 12 hours or so in most cases. In some cases you'll get weird errors after a while on windows machines especially where it will say something about "Can't get the streamUrl, type is application/dash+xml"

I've also answered this in the how to, that the easiest way to resolve this is to go to your c drive, or wherever the installer put the .json config file and delete or rename it. tidal-dl will recreate it and all will work again. As a side note, I almost never have this issue in termux on android using the windows auth bearer key.

I wanted to update anyone here using Fiddler with a security recommendation. I got to thinking about how I had set Fiddler to decrypt all https traffic from my computer, and I have a lot of sensitive info on this computer going to the internet. So I didn't want to allow it to decrypt bank logins and other sensitive info. I found this setting to isolate fiddler to decrypt only Tidal, by doing the following. Once you set it, you will still see all the traffic loading, but everything will be gray except for tidal api calls will still be black and show the key in the headers.
