The preview sites are created using WordPress Playground. You can add content, edit settings, and test the themes as you would on a real site, but please note that changes are not saved between sessions.
Child themes are dependent on their parent themes. You will have to install the parent theme as well for the preview to work correctly.

@dsas, I made a PR to fix #7437. I don't think there will be any issue with it, but I wanted you to see it in case there is any concern from the dotcom side.

No issues that I'm aware of. As far as I remember, the changes won't show up on wordpress.com/themes until they get reindexed into elastic search (i.e. the theme.wordpress.com entry gets updated or someone does a full reindex), I think this is ok.
