This progresses the Phoenix BIOS that I'm using to POST code 27h, i.e.. next up is the AT keyboard controller.
I don't see anything listed in the POST codes about checking the IDE interface so it's possible that adding that will bring my reckoning with 16-bit protected mode. Time will tell.
