I've noticed when playing the orignal sargon x86 version under the tarrasch gui with no book enabled, it seems to respond to 1. Nf3 with e5 not d5 as the source code would suggest ?

Yes, sorry this is definitely a known bug https://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=74027&start=160#p892001 I have fixed it https://github.com/billforsternz/retro-sargon/blob/master/src/sargon-interface.cpp but sadly I haven't made a 'Release' as such with the fix, so you only get the benefit of the fix if you build from source. I plan to do some more work with Sargon 1978 this year, eg making a nice CP/M version using the improved Z80 mnemonics source code generated as a side effect of the project. Any loose ends (like the lack of a release with the bug you have rediscovered) will be tidied up then.
