Don't unconditionally yell at users to include the file extension.

If the file exists but has not extension, tell the user to rename it.
If the file doesn't exist, tell the user where we searched
The remaining catch-all error message could still be improved by determining whether the format was supported or not. Currently there is no way a user can learn which formats are supported.
