Random Thoughts

  • I would say that S is built on three main elements. The underlying story, the exploration and progression, and most importantly, the creation of sound. S is more of an instrument with a virtual world built around it. Do note that this is more of an interactive virtual world than a "game". More of a "play" if you catch my drift. So new game mechanics should be avoided unless to build upon and improve the ones that are there already. (I'm always open for ideas though, so please to throw them at me)

  • Overall visuals are not as much of an holy grail and something tells me your input in that field will bring us something really interesting. Feel free to play around with shaders and whatever you feel like. As long as the overall bleakness and emptiness of the atmosphere isn't compromised.

  • more "alive-ness" of the world, floating constructs and such adding dynamics to the world. For example, instead of blocks floating in air like they are set in stone they could be affected slightly by gravity. Sort of "hover plates".

  • More sounds, more variations.

  • More drama in the end soundwise and graphics wise. Any ideas are welcome. (if you can find the "end", haha)

  • The creation of cubes is the center thing of the game. I would wish to make the creation (and the cubes themselves) more interesting. I would want to see them getting morphed into existence. And maybe instead of size changes there would be shape changes. So the longer you hold it, the more of a sphere it becomes? Ideas? (would be interesting to see them rolling around when I come to think about it)

  • The bland colours of the cubes do help with the atmosphere but they make it very difficult to identify them. Any other colours or shapes we could use to identify sounds? (there are 10 sounds right now)

  • It's hard to see what cube we are using currently, maybe they should be visible even when you are not making them. So it's more like in a regular fps where you can see "the gun" you are holding.

  • Any thoughts about improvements to the particle columns where the voiceover can be heard in several places?

  • This one is big, but I thought I'd write it down at the very least. I had a very grand vision of the ending of the game which I never managed to create because of lack of experience and time. The voice you hear all around the gameworld is "S", which some people might call an A.I., a god, a superbeing. One thing is for sure, s/he/it is bigger than you. And I wanted it to show. I originally wanted the end to showcase her "waking up", and you could see a big portion of the map start moving like it was her limbs (think about some parts of Shadow of the Colossus when the Colossus wake up). And instead of you jumping down like it's implemented down she would rip a hole in the ground (her chest?) where there was nothing below other than darkness, and you would fall down and you would start seeing galaxies and stars inside her. I know this is big but I wanted to throw in this idea here to maybe inspire something in your head. ;)

Here's the voiceover script of the person you can hear in couple of places throughout the gameworld. The last part depicting the end.
