Storyline (the game only achieves the very first part of the storyline):
Clockwork Muscovy portrays the city of Muscovy experiences a time of unprecedented industrial growth, and is struggling to deal with the consequences: environmental pollution ensures Muscovy rests in a near-constant cover of poisoned clouds, clean drinking water is hard to come by, and self-reliance is a citizen’s most valuable trait. To make matters worse, the poisoned wasteland that surrounds Muscovy is home to a range of dangerous predators, human and otherwise. Although electricity exists on a limited scale, the use of steam is ubiquitous in powering household and public appliances, and by modern standards technology is in its infancy. On the other hand, magic sporadically manifests itself in people who show a sensitivity to it, and magic, steam-powered technology and what little remains of mother nature coexist in ever starker contrast.
It is in this setting that students at the University of Muscovy try to make the world a better place by trying to understand their environment and each other. In the spirit of self-reliance, the applied sciences have never been more popular, and the U of M is home to the most promising chemists and natural philosophers, as well as those who train for a life in the military as ROTC cadets.
As a new arrival in Muscovy and a freshman at the U of M, it is up to the player to enroll in classes, team up with a party of adventurers, and find out how much longer technology can exist alongside nature and magic. Unless the player steps in and takes action, forces at work beyond the gazes of U of M professors may change the future of Muscovy permanently...
