Getting Started Guide for GL.iNet B1300

In this guide we will provide instructions to get a GL.iNet GL-B1300 router working as an IoT hub with the open source router firmware we have pre-built and the Minim Labs developer portal. This will give you the ability to see when devices are talking to the internet, monitor them for security vulnerabilities, even use schedules and time-limits to limit their activity on the internet.

Prerequisites

Flashing Minim Firmware

To install the firmware on a stock GL-B1300, initiate and access the bootloader. This is only necessary on the very first flash of the firmware to get off the stock OEM firmware.

  1. Push down reset button (botton on left with device facing you) and power on while holding button down.
  2. Wait about 10 seconds, until the 2 left outermost LEDs stop flashing.
  3. Configure your IP address on ethernet to manual— not DHCP— with the following settings: 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 and then go to http://192.168.1.1
  4. If successful, the bootloader web user interface should appear. If not, unplug your router and try step 3 again.
  5. Take note of the location of the .bin file and upload it to the GL-B1300 bootloader and click "Update Firmware".
    • Once the Flash process starts, it will take between 1-3 minutes for the process to complete. In some instances it may take longer. This indicated by the power LED remaining solid and the WiFi light remaining off.
  6. Re-configure your IP address back to DHCP or your preferred settings.
  7. Log into your new Minim router by opening your browser and typing 192.168.1.1. Your password is not set by default and can login without entering a password. We highly recommend that you set up a password once inside the router portal.

Note* By default, on OpenWRT, your SSID (WiFi) may be disabled by default and will need enabled for WiFi use.

Register Your Device with Minim

  1. Once all the initial setup steps are completed, you will need to login to your Minim Lab portal and add a "Add new Unum-enabled router".
  2. Create a new "Minim Lab Network" and to register your GL-B1300, enter its MAC address into the "Mac Address" field and click submit.
  3. After submitting the form, you will be redirected back to your Device Provisioning dashboard. You will find your GL.iNet router on your Minim Labs dashboard.
  4. Within a few minutes your GL.iNet router will come online. You can check this status on the top right hand side on your GL.iNet LAN.
