- Figma Design Board for PASS
PASS wants to make our application accessible to as many people in as many conditions as we possibly can. To meet this goal we target certain accessibility standards
PASS targets a physically insecure user base. We are trying to service people who may not have a personal computer, or a laptop. People facing housing insecurity often prioritize holding onto their phone over everything else. However, due to their extreme situation, they may not have access to even that. As such, we want to make our app function for people whose only computer is the one provided to them by a public library.
This leads to a variety of design challenges that are unique to the PASS application:
- We can only target widely available platforms
- We cannot assume that users have any particular hardware beyond "a computer"
This constrains the scope of our platform: we want the service to reliably function for a person whose only access is via a computer provided to them by a public library.
PASS is being developed by volunteers through CODE PDX, a Portland, OR civic coding organization with the support of Technology Association of Oregon, OpenCommons, and Oregon Digital Safety Net.
